The Secret World of Arrietty/The Borrower (2010)
Bryan uses himself as a reference= perfection.
Love that someone put these side by side for comparisons. Not all productions send acting references for animators- really great that they have been doing it, even for the previous series (it’s not just for the martial arts move!)

HAHAHA in Japan you can get the same hair pin as Arrietty’s!

Ok ok just one more pieced together screenshot from Howl’s Moving Castle and I’m done.

Am I spamming? It’s okay right…?Actual set built to match the background in The Secret World of Arrietty.

The Secret World of Arrietty/The Borrowers
I just watched Studio Ghibli’s lastest film, made after Ponyo. I believe it opened in America on the 7th.
Maybe it’s because Miyazaki didn’t direct this one (Yonebayashi Hiromasa directed)… the film healed me of all the times I’ve been torn between love for Ghibli films and hate for their loopholes and WTF story twists (see Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo, etc.). This one is just, another one of Ghibli’s perfect, perfect films. The feeling I get by the time I see the credits rolling is something that only Ghibli can bestow.
And the animation, o man. I had to pause at every other change of shot just to stare at the background, or to rewatch a five second clip over and over just to catch the way Arrietty’s hair moves. I’m going to post some pics of the film’s backgrounds just to indulge myself…
HOLY CRAP DONE BY HAND HOLY CRAPSomeone asked if I had anything from “The Firebird Suite” from Fantasia 2000. I have this, which is a combination of several layers of pencil animation (mostly effects) and the final composites. An interesting watch.
